Optimising Outdoor Living with the Wemyss Inside/Outside Collection July 15, 2021
The Inside/Outside Collection
We are delighted to have recently launched our first FibreGuard Outdoor range, Inside/Outside, a strong collection of 6 designs including 2 semi-plain jacquards, a trellis, a flower-inspired geometric pattern and an embroidered design resembling a skyscraper.
Our exciting, new Inside/Outside collection incorporates the well-known and highly trusted FibreGuard finish with a few added characteristics which make it a great option for both indoor and outdoor use. Lasting years without losing their unique traits like colourfastness, durability and water and stain repellency, our latest FibreGuard Outdoor fabrics have been manufactured for optimal fade protection, taking exposure to the sun’s harmful rays in their stride. The complete range is made up of solution dyed yarns which have excellent UV and weather resistant properties. Similar to our other FibreGuard collections, the inherent stain resistant properties protect the fabric against common household stains such as mud, pen, suncream and other oily substances. This means that whether you plan to use the furniture for lounging in the sun or for social gatherings, you can relax and feel confident that your furniture can handle whatever comes its way.
Over the past year we have all continued to become more conscious about hygiene both when in public and around our homes, our Inside/Outside collection also boasts FibreGuard Outdoor’s antimicrobial and anti-bacterial attributes which are able to tackle the growth of mould and mildew, as well as the spread of bacteria and germs. Additionally, they will resist bad odours which can commonly be found in environments that are more humid. Inside/Outside ticks the boxes all across the board and can be used both inside and outside your home!
The importance of Outdoor Living
Have you ever stopped and taken a moment to think about just how much better you feel both mentally and physically after spending time outdoors? Outdoor living spaces are extremely important to everyday life and can benefit many areas of your health. Many homes across the country have pristine mowed lawns, well looked after flower beds and plenty of space to be admired but these spaces aren’t livable and don’t suit the lifestyle of their owners. Many of us strive to have beautiful home interiors and forget about creating spaces in our gardens that can improve our mood, boost our immune system and increase our vitamin D levels.
Surrounding yourself with green spaces is particularly good for the immune system. Evidence shows that plants produce phytoncides which, when inhaled, cause an increase in the production of NK white blood cells that kill virally infected cells. Outdoor living is also beneficial as more than 1/2 of the UK population is Vitamin D deficient. Regular exposure to the sun is one of the best and easiest sources of Vitamin D, this is why we should all make a more conscious effort to spend more time outside.
If you are looking to reduce your stress levels, sleep better and work more productively then creating an outdoor space that you can use, whatever the weather is a great start!
Outdoor Decor Tips to make the most of the space you have
Before designing your outdoor space, take a minute to consider what you would actually do here. How do you envision yourself spending time in this area? Who is going to spend time in this outdoor space? Once you have established this then you can go ahead and design the new ‘room’ that is your garden.
The UK weather can be unpredictable and during the summer months, we aren’t guaranteed to have glorious sunshine. This is why you need to make your outdoor spaces suitable for all seasons (because we can experience them all in the space of 24 hours!). For those of you who love to invite your friends round and plan to use the area for entertaining outdoors, you will need to kit your outdoor space out with some well-chosen pieces of garden furniture. You can make these areas fun and inject them with your personality by introducing colour with your outdoor furnishing fabrics.
Colourfastness in the fabrics is key here as nobody wants the effort they have put into styling this space to fade after prolonged exposure to UV rays or a heavy hitting of stormy weather. You can trust that our Inside/Outside collection surpasses standards such as the ISO 105-B02 (colour fastness to light), the ISO 105-E01 (colour fastness to water) and the ISO 105-X12 (colour fastness to rubbing). This range is also water resistant, so can survive good old British showers ☂️ You may also want to include an awning or enclosed space to your garden, something that can shield you from the wind and rain without forcing you to retreat back inside.
We also suggest that you design this space with your hobbies in mind. If you are a keen reader, then why not create a reading nook in your garden. Cushions are the quickest way to make your special retreat comfortable while defining it as a ‘room’ of its own. You can choose rounded patterns, organic shapes and the softest fabric you can find (we’re biased but we’re going to say ours) to really chill out. If instead you enjoy spending your time in the kitchen then outdoor kitchens are a huge trend at the moment! You can create a canopy over them to allow you to fire up the BBQ, even when the weather isn’t playing ball or incorporate them into an outbuilding. They can be as simple or as elaborate as your space and budget allows, just make sure that they will allow you to cook outdoors as often as you like!
